Oscar graduated with a M.Sc. degree in Optics from Mexico's National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica, Óptica y Electrónica) where he worked with nonlinear optical processes in integrated quantum nanophotonic devices in a collaboration with the University of Rochester. He obtained his Bachelor in Nanotechnology Engineering degree with Cum Laudehonors from the University of the Americas (Universidad de las Américas, Puebla). During his undergraduate he worked with synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles and with plasmonics. He is now pursuing his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Columbia. Out of the lab Oscar enjoys playing the drums and son jarocho (mexican folk music). He is a big jazz music fan and likes biking, hiking and salsa dancing.
