Mateus received his B.S. (2016) and M.S. (2017) in Electrical Engineering from University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Brazil, where he earned a distinction for graduating with the highest GPA in the history of the university (0.9910 out of 1.0000). As part of his undergraduate and masters' theses, he worked with localized waves and beam shaping, in particular the control of intensity and polarization along the propagation direction, and with modes with orbital angular momentum in free-space, optical fibers and integrated waveguides for telecommunication applications. He joined the Lipson Nanophotonics Group as a PhD candidate in 2017. Apart from research, Mateus enjoys swimming, roller skating, reading, cooking, drawing and painting, and hiking.
